IGNITE-ing the Fight for the Honey Bee

The IGNITE Programme at University College Cork is an internationally recognised business incubation programme for graduate led start-ups. The recently launched tenth programme, IGNITE 10, brings to 100 the number of start-ups supported by the programme since 2011.

Among recent successes is ApisProtect, founded by University College Cork PhD Graduate, Fiona Edwards-Murphy. ApisProtect uses Internet of Things technologies to help beekeepers prevent losses and increase productivity in their beehives. The company has recently closed a €1.5 million investment round to enable global expansion just over 12 months after being named IGNITE Business of the Year for 2017.

Jane Haynes’ aptly titled article, “Don’t Worry, Bees Happy”, in Independent Thinking, the magazine of University College Cork, tells the story so far: https://www.ucc.ie/en/magazine/2018issue/dont-worry-bees-happy.html
