IGNITE-ing the Fight for the Honey Bee

The IGNITE Programme at University College Cork is an internationally recognised business incubation programme for graduate led start-ups. The recently launched tenth programme, IGNITE 10, brings to 100 the number of start-ups supported by the programme since 2011.

Among recent successes is ApisProtect, founded by University College Cork PhD Graduate, Fiona Edwards-Murphy. ApisProtect uses Internet of Things technologies to help beekeepers prevent losses and increase productivity in their beehives. The company has recently closed a €1.5 million investment round to enable global expansion just over 12 months after being named IGNITE Business of the Year for 2017.
