PhD student researching study abroad push factors wins UCC scholarship award
Ms Wei Xiong, a PhD student in the School of Economics, was awarded the William J Leen PhD Scholarship at the University’s Prize-Giving Ceremony on May 19. Wei has just completed her first year of a PhD on the roles of earnings expectations and parental influence on the decision of Chinese students to study abroad. The William J Leen Scholarship is awarded by the Scholarship Board of the Academic Council on a competitive basis to university graduates who propose to pursue at UCC a PhD degree in any of the Faculties of Arts, Celtic Studies, Commerce or Law. Wei studied at Henan University of Economics and Law and is a graduate of the School of Economics’ BSc (Business and Financial Economics) degree, a joint 2+2 degree with our partner universities and she was has an MSc (Financial Economics) from UCC.
