“Cura personalis” which means “care for the whole person”

Healthy lifestyle at University College Cork

Claire Cummings our study abroad student from Loyola University Maryland offers healthy advice for your time here at UCC….

“One of my favorite aspects of living in Cork is how stores, restaurants, and sightseeing opportunities are within walking distance of my apartment and UCC! The city is vibrant and begging to be explored. Though I found walking to be an healthy means of exercise, I was eager to check out the gym as well.

The Mardyke Arena is the health and leisure facility utilized by UCC students and local Cork residents. The newly renovated centre is clean and welcoming. Tours are offered to become familiar with the gym’s state-of-the-art facilities. From swimming, squash, cardio, and more, the Mardyke Arena has something for everyone. The fitness classes are a fun way to stay in shape and meet new people in the process. I am particularly eager to try spin and power pilates!

Back home at Loyola University Maryland we embrace the Latin phrase, “Cura personalis” which means “care for the whole person”. I hope to live out this ideal here in Ireland through a strong commitment to holistic health of mind, body, and spirit. Working out at the Mardyke Arena is a step in the right direction!”
