mysterious…practical. Just some of the many adjectives that come to
mind when thinking about research presented at the
UCC Doctoral Showcase 2011.
Doctoral candidates were given the opportunity to showcase their work in the most exuberant and interesting manner to a general, non-specialist audience. Many employers from within the region are attracted to the event and two prizes of €1,000 are handed to the candidates with the most innovative presentation. The research varies from ‘Examining the trachea of a deep-diving turtle’ to finding ‘The coldest place in Ireland?‘ to ‘The effect of the Dalai Lama’s defection to India in 1959 on Chinese-Indian relations?‘ UCC is a diverse hub in many respects and this was reflected in our Doctoral candidate’s research showcase this past week. So now we know what our fellow comrades hard at work in campus corners and library desks are up to!
