American visitors to Ireland have given us the thumbs up. They gave Ireland a 4 out of 5 rating making it their favourite destination above those visited in the past and a 9.4 out of 10 for attractiveness. The 2,400 respondents, most of whom have Irish heritage, highlighted the landscape and the people as important factors for its allure followed by paying visits to relatives and the variety of tourist destinations. Niall O’ Dowd, the publisher and founder of the Irish Central website, was very pleased with the findings and commenting on the goodwill of Irish-Americans towards Ireland, he said: “Those numbers are off the charts. It makes me realise what a treasure Ireland has in its diaspora in America.”
